It's the first day of the All Star Break. Let's get silly.
There are a few things at play:
Let’s say the Jays trade Bats for Major League level starting pitching. Not prospects but impact arms.
No contending team is going to trade starting pitching to another contending team (the Blue Jays.)
No contending team is going to sit around and say “Hey, we have so much pitching. Let’s send some to the Blue Jays.” Especially one that will almost immediately bite them back in October.
“Too much pitching” to a contending team is like a unicorn: mythical.
No non-contending team is going to trade for a rental who is a free agent at the end of the season.
Jose Bautista is not going to agree to be traded to a non-contending team. He has the right to do that because he has 10/5 rights. It takes ten seconds to find that out.
It took even less than ten seconds- it took 0.72 seconds
You can also read all the dumb trade ideas that have come up over the years.
So, Miss Morris has the 10/5 rights pointed out to her (because it takes .72 seconds to find that information out.)
But weirder things have happened?
Like turf toe is a code word for “frontal lobotomy” and Bautista is completely brain dead now?
Oh, I see.
Are the Red Sox planning on trading David Ortiz to “get something for him?” Like pitching from a contender, because the Red Sox pitching is considerably shabbier than the Jays? Does that sound crazy?
It should. Because it is.
If I were in charge of the Jays, I would do everything possible to get Jose Bautista healthy and ride that magnificent creature to October glory. After that, what happens, happens.
I want him doing this for my team in October.
