That's Baseball (YAY!)
I was watching Sunday Night Baseball on, well, Sunday, and I was thoroughly impressed by one Miguel Cabrera. He hit three homers, which is impressive (though rally killing because all the runs score), but his plate discipline is insane. It really felt like he was impossible to get out.
And then yesterday, José Bautista reminded me that he was Still José.
Cue the beats:
Last eight plate appearances: BB, single, RBI single, RBI single, homer, BB, homer, RBI single.
Still taking my time to perfect the beat. Still.
“You know what he's capable of doing,” Mark Buehrle said. “He's one of those guys, like Longoria, if he's going to come up to bat you want nobody on base because if you … make a mistake, he can make you pay for it. You've just got to hope guys like that come up to bat with nobody on base.”
The two homers, one a glorious pulled blast, were impressive. But poking an outside pitch for a broken bat looping single for the win in the 10th was just masterful. That was a good pitch by Farnsworth, and Bautista still made him pay for it.
“Anytime the game is on the line, obviously you want to be at the plate. I get a little bit more excited for those," said Bautista. Obviously it means a lot more than coming up in an eight-run game in the seventh inning with nobody on, leading off. It was a huge moment.”
And he came up huge in the huge moment. Bautista provided all the runs in a pretty stellar Mark Buehrle effort, and the Jays finally won a series against Tampa for the first time since 2010. That's 16 series. That's pretty gross.
To quote Macklemore (as you should) "This is f*cking awesome."
The game was frustrating for some.
