Proof of Life: Jays Force Game 5

October 19, 2016 by Joanna Cornish

It’s not just that the Jays won last night, though that was fantastic. It’s that they played like they can play. They were their best selves.

Tulo on #BlueJays' approach: "Give it everything you've got. Usually when we give it everything we've got we end up winning."

— Ben Nicholson-Smith (@bnicholsonsmith) October 19, 2016

Jose Bautista says #BlueJays' pitching has been 'outstanding.' As for the bats: “We’re capable of doing even more than we did today."

— Ben Nicholson-Smith (@bnicholsonsmith) October 19, 2016

Martin on Donaldson: “You could see the intensity just by the look in his eyes. You could tell that nobody wanted it more than him"#BlueJays

Aaron Sanchez demonstrated, once again, why he is one of the most exciting young talents in baseball. Josh Donaldson reminded everyone why he is the reigning MVP.

And Terry Francona, who had been touted as a genius for the first three games, was a little bit of a bonehead.

Great piece of hitting by Encarnacion but why does he have to look into the Indians dugout on his way to first and yell?

— John Kruk (@JohnKruk) October 18, 2016

Um, he’s wondering why Francona loaded the bases to face one of the best hitters in baseball.

There is still a lot of work, obviously, but getting past Kluber after losing to him in Game 1 is not a small thing. With Trevor Bauer’s finger looking like a blood sausage and Carasco and Salazar out of commission, it’s basically Kluber, Tomlin and rookie Ryan Merritt.

A rookie who Bautista hilariously/brazenly poked at in the post-game. Much to the outrage of the media. (You might say they clucked their tongues and stroked their beards.)

Jose Bautista on Ryan Merritt: "With our experience in our lineup I'm pretty sure he's going to be shaking in his boots more than we are."

— Ben Nicholson-Smith (@bnicholsonsmith) October 19, 2016

Nothing Bautista says here is wrong. They have a lot of experience. Merritt does not. Bautista is basically saying they have no reason to be afraid. And the follow up quote indicates it’s not nearly as much dick swinging as it might first appear.

Jose Bautista acknowledged that "Not having seen (Merritt) is something that could go either way." Added "I like where we're at" #BlueJays

This gamesmanship has been going on between these two teams all season.

The Dean Blundell Show this morning was unlistenable. Fans are tired of this act.  Casey Stern: Bautista doesn’t play as hard are Donaldson (who is just like Dustin Pedroia), Bautista tries to hit a homer every time he’s up (no, he doesn’t. His eye at the plate is his big tool, he’s always done that.) Implied Josh Donaldson was less brazen than Bautista (HAHAHAHAHHA here’s a message.)

Josh Donaldson to Angels Bench: "Fuck You, Suck My Cock" http://t.co/G2X6oAZOx1 pic.twitter.com/CIpxXnpPKX

So demure.

you should ask him that. his own side or team side. https://t.co/ltqiSAewU3

Which feeds this nonsense:

@bnicholsonsmith if only Bautista could back up all the shit he talks

— MICHAEL (@miketempIe) October 19, 2016

James with some truth tonic.

The bitter, sour venom toward Bautista, a Blue Jay legend who came up big over and over is one of this city's greatest sports shame.

— James G (@james_in_to) October 18, 2016

The greatest "Late & Close" hitter since 2010. The Bat Flip. ALCS Game 6. 2016 WC HR, 2016 ALDS Game 3 HR.

— James G (@james_in_to) October 18, 2016

Left for dead, bounced around a bunch of teams, rose from the ashes. Franchise single season HR leader. What more could fans and media want?

— James G (@james_in_to) October 18, 2016

One of the greatest athletes/sports figures to ever play in this city. Let's celebrate the shit out of Jose Bautista. This might be the end tonight.

But it better not be.
