A Few Thoughts: Chicago Cubs vs Cleveland World Series

October 23, 2016 by Joanna Cornish

I've been in a mood. I watched very little of the NLCS and only kept a casual eye on the scoreboard via Gameday. You might say it's sour grapes, and maybe it is. But, again, I was just not in the mood.

However, congrats to the fans of the Chicago Cubs and to the fans of Cleveland's baseball team. Chicago hasn't been to the World Series since 1945 (losing to the Detroit Tigers) and hasn't won since 1908 (in which they beat the Detroit Tigers). Cleveland last went in 1997 (losing to the Florida Marlins) and last won in 1948 (beating the Boston Braves- a team that has moved from Boston to Milwaukee to Atlanta in the 68 years since.)

Someone's curse (Cleveland's  or the Cubs ) is going to be broken.

In some ways I feel sorry for Cleveland (for other reasons than tying themselves in knots trying to defend that ridiculous logo.)

Either you are unable to do what teams over 108 years have done, which is beat the Chicago Cubs.

Or you are the team that plays villain in denying Bill Murray, Eddie Vedder, this lady and all the other millions of fans a World Series title after over a century of frustration.

You'd also be pleasing Cardinal fans, which should be never be anyone's goal.

In which rich people make bets.

A @Cubs vs. @Indians #WorldSeries.

Bragging rights are at stake for city natives @KingJames and @DwyaneWade. https://t.co/qDuR3qFBES pic.twitter.com/hOQzgC4SyT
