Resurrecting the Buzz
Vernon Wells commented on Aaron Hill's season long offensive quagmire, “He’ll come out of this and he’ll be better because of it.”
"This" seems to have been the 6th spot because hitting from the 8th hole, Hill had two walks and a homerun. Cito Gaston proved once again that he is an unquestionable genius. Don't even be asking why Travis Snider was on the bench. Because asking is questioning and that would go against the unquestionable genius. Also fantastic? Vernon Wells going 3-4, with just a double short of a cycle. The lack of cycle does not mean it's a bad night, it just would've been cool.
The Jays have played the Yankees frighteningly well this season, which is a new phenomenon. The trend for the recent past has been to beat the snot out of the Red Sox and then roll over for the Yankees, causing Massholes to go into fits. It didn't really result in any sort of progress.
Speaking of fits, that 9th inning, despite a 4 run lead, was awful. There are few things worse than a patient team like the Yankees and a couple of nibbling relief pitchers. It almost spoiled a fantastic Brett Cecil performance. The big four, Marcum, Romero, Morrow and Cecil have been stellar and they are clearly a tight knit, supportive group.
Phil Hughes was not at his sharpest, but Jorge Posada was mixed up for most of the game and must hold some kind of record for mound visits. Why the issue was not resolved after the inning it first appeared is a mystery to me. Posada appeared to be changing the signs often, so maybe he thought the Jays were stealing them. Which maybe they were, but confusing your struggling starter is much more damaging than Cito having your signs.
Joey Votto, my other favourite for MVP, was featured in a very nice article in Sports Illustrated. Votto is a simple man, with simple tastes. The article doesn't mention that at the time of his DL stint last year for anxiety, before the stuff about his father came out, the rumour was that Votto's ex-boyfriend from Toronto was about to go public and that's what the stress was over. Yes, there are "Votto is gay" rumours. In show business, that means you have arrived.
Speaking of show business, Dustin Parkes stars in a movie. That is actually playing in a theatre. It was actually reviewed in Now Magazine by Norman Wilner. Yes, Wilner as in brother of Mike. I suggest you check it out. And just to ensure that Parkes achieves a new level of stardom, I'm going to say he's gay. I'm going to start that rumour right now. And his blogging performance is probably enhanced by drugs.
So Bautista's got the drug rumour, and Votto has the gay rumour.
MVP! MVP!
