Like Bo, Omar Knows

Many apologies about neglecting this space, but life intervened. But since it is officially Blue Jay Opening Day, I should probably get my act together.

Just a reminder, though this blog may be neglected, I do often write about baseball on my Twitter feed.  I wrote pretty extensively (in bursts of 140 characters) about the Dustin McGowan contract. The gist is- it's peanuts and people should relax about it.  I am right and those who disagree are wrong.  Or drama queens.

The Jays had an insane spring. So insane it makes me wish spring numbers actually meant something real.
The Internet is buzzing about Brett Lawrie.  Old Man Omar thinks the kid is for real.

He is a special guy. I think you’re not going to see too many players with the talents like this guy has. He’s a combination of power and speed. I think of Bo Jackson, and he was great.”

To put things in perspective, Omar Vizquel's played Major League baseball one year longer than Lawrie has been alive.

Ricky Romero gets the call for the start in Cleveland against that team with the very racist logo.

There are very few things more hopeful and joyful than Opening Day. It isn't like this for the other sports, probably because they start in the late summer or the fall. There is sunshine. There is hope. There is beer. And there is a chance to boo your team's members who under performed last season.

Oh and The National Post was kind enough to ask me to contribute to their bloggers panel.  There's more about my predictions over there.

Certified genius (and I've seen the certificate) Craig Robinson made this inforgraphic on the history of Jays' Opening Day.
