Opening Home

Ok, before more people ask, no, I'm not going to the home opener. I tried to buy tickets, but they sold out in like, 30 seconds. So if you got tickets, goody for you.  I'll be drinking as many beers as I'd like at home.

This weekend was intense. The season opener was amazing.  Not only was it 16 innings of baseball, it was 16 innings that featured excellent pitching from the bullpen, bench clearing, pimped out doubles, an amazing  catch by Rasmus in centre, a Bautista blast, a five man infield and a go ahead homer. I think there was also a unicorn in left sometime in the 12th.

I thought I might be totally cheesy and do a top five reasons I'm excited about this season.

5. Looking around my school, I've noticed a lot of Jays gear. Not just brand spanking new hats (though I've seen a few of those. The blue is a really good blue) but old logos.  There is something in the air. Forget paint the town blue, this is paint the province blue.

4.
I tweeted joyful expletives when this happened.  I love that he can do this. I love that he started doing this on the regular for this team. I love that we get to watch it and call him ours.

3. Schadenfreude. My father had a chuckle when I told him the Sox had hired Bobby Valentine as their manager. They've gotten off to a rough start. SOSH has been fruitful for this blog since the blog's inception. Stars are aligning.  Let's take a look:

Beckett on the mound is always a good thing. Two thumbs up.

This was early on Saturday.

Fuck everyone and everything.

That was a little later.

Supposedly he's vegan. He must be on an all pizza and soda diet.

On Prince's diet. Um, if he's a vegan, that means he doesn't eat any animal by products. There is usually at least cheese on the pizza and eggs used to make the crust.  If you are going to mock someone, get your facts right.

no tito + no theo + no manny = no chance-o

I enjoy that this person included Manny.

Anyone on ESPN Insider? Did Olney write today the Sox clubhouse is a mess and some players still hate each other from last year?

I really hope that they do.

And this completes the humiliation.

I don't even think it was 10-0 yet. Well, thanks fellas. I don't think the Sox are going to be a bad team. I'm actually a little nervous about this opening home series, as the Jays got smoked by the Sox a season ago. But I'm just hoping for the comedy gold that comes out of that forum when things go wrong.

 2. I was really happy to see that people from Toronto went down to Cleveland for opening weekend. Twitter buddy Anne T. Donahue wrote about it for The AV Club Toronto. Toronto now has some of those fans that people hate.  Visiting fans that take over the home team's ballpark. Toronto gets them from Rochester when the Yankees are in town. The mullets tend to be a sight to see.

1.This is going to get really lame. My blog is turning five this coming week and I can't quite believe it. I've met so many interesting people through it (and by extension, through Twitter) and I want to thank all of you for reading. This team is very fun and may actually end up doing something amazing. There is a different feeling in the air.
