New Synonyms for Nasty

Well, that's a little more like it.

This past series was particularly satisfying because the Red Sox killed the Jays last year. I remember a weekend last June where they were throughly humiliated.  It's like the Sox were just toying with them.

The teams seemed more evenly matched this year, like the Jays are a little better and the Sox are a little worse.

For whatever reason, watching Kyle Drabek measure the location for the little "t" he drew with his cleat by putting one foot in front of the other made me feel very good about his start.  His start looked a little better without looking at his actual numbers because the kid was just so darn poised. I think the technical term for that is "big boy pants." He got behind Cody Ross, and seemed to be able to pull himself together and battle in a way he couldn't last season.

“I was kind of telling myself just to come back, but not in a way where you’re just throwing fastballs down the middle,” Drabek said, before getting into the Ross at-bat. “I wanted to execute good pitches and keep him off balance a little bit. He swung at the ball up. That saved me a little bit."

Yes, fastballs down the middle would just be silly.

The Jays also beat Jon Lester, who has owned them in the past, in the third game of the series.  Ricky Romero rebounded by his spotty Opening Day start by being zoned in and nasty.

Sergio Santos, thrilled that the Toronto fans know how to boo someone who isn't him, utilized his slider that was, well, nasty. Where was that the other night, buddy?

So what about the booing, Sergio?

“I know they’re passionate, obviously, reading all the stuff about the Leafs and not making the playoffs,” Santos said. “So they’re passionate about their sports, which is good. It’s all you can ask for.”

If this keeps up, I'm going to need some new synonyms for "nasty."

Oh and Boston? Why would Tito want to come to your party after you implied he was a junkie?

“Larry (Lucchino) called me,” Francona said. “I was in a phone store in Arizona. I had three people standing around me. I was at a little bit of a disadvantage. He got a little perturbed at me, telling me I was being unfair to them. I called him back … and left him a message. He called me back and we ended up getting into an argument."

Calling him in the phone store? You're a bad breaker upper.
